Part 2:Installation and Cleaning of Optical Lenses

Optical lens installation

During the installation process, if the method is not correct, the lens will be contaminated. Therefore, the previous operating procedures are to be followed. If a large number of lenses need to be installed and removed, it is necessary to design a fixture to accomplish the task. A dedicated fixture reduces the number of contact with the lens, reducing the risk of lens contamination or damage.

In addition, if the lens is not installed correctly, the laser system will not work properly or even be damaged.

Correct installation method

All CO2 laser lenses should be mounted in one direction. Therefore, the user should confirm the correct direction of the lens. For example, the output mirror high reflection surface should be in the cavity, and the high transparency surface should be outside the cavity. If it is reversed, the laser will not generate laser light or generate low energy laser. The convex surface of the final focusing lens is in the cavity, and the second side of the lens head is either concave or flat, which is suitable for work. If it is reversed, it will lead to a larger focus and a change in working distance. In cutting applications, the slits become larger and the cutting speed becomes slower. The mirror is the third common lens and its installation is also critical. Of course, it is easy to distinguish the reflective surface for the mirror. It is obvious that one of the coating faces the laser.

In general, the manufacturer will mark the edges to help identify the surface. Generally this mark is an arrow with the arrow facing one side. Every lens manufacturer has a system for marking lenses. In general, for mirrors and output mirrors, the arrows face the high side. For lenses, the arrows face the concave or flat surface. Sometimes the lens label will remind you of the meaning of the mark.
